Richmond Police Department

Welcome to the Richmond Police Department

Our department serves a diverse community of approximately 102,000 residents over a large geographic area that includes 32 miles of shoreline, numerous residential neighborhoods, an active port, significant industrial and technology resources, major retail and business centers, and several thousand acres of park land.

Richmond is a city of contrasts.  It’s no secret our community has struggled for decades with crime and other problems common to many urban areas.  Although much of the violence in Richmond is concentrated to relatively small sections of the city, its impact is felt city-wide, and residents in every neighborhood share a desire for a safer community.

We’ve Moved !!

The Richmond Police Department has moved to 1701 Regatta Boulevard, near City Hall.

We've finished unpacking boxes and our employees have become situated in the new building.  We occupy the eastern portion of the DiCon building - look for the Richmond Police Department star on the entrance of our new lobby.

All listed and public phone numbers have remained the same and are in full operation.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during our historic and monumental move.

2007 Violence Reduction and Crime Prevention Strategies Document

There’s no single cause for the violent crime in Richmond, so there’s not one simple solution.  Violence is not a new problem for our city and plans to deal effectively with it will take time and lots of work by everyone.

We have multiple strategies underway at the Police Department to reduce violent crime.  Many are already having a positive impact, but almost all of them require community support, adequate resources, and perhaps most importantly—time.  Here is just some of what we’re working on:

The Richmond Police Department Plan To Reduce Violence In Our Community:

·          Improve communication and build relationships between neighborhood residents and the police officers who work in their neighborhoods.  This is done by assigning officers from each shift to specific geographic beats every day.   More…
